Donate a Football - Namutumba Kids Academy!
Message from Dean Pattison - Namutumba Kids Football
Two years ago I took up the role of team manager at Bramley Sunnyside Under 7's and have since helped to develop 25 youngsters across three separate teams who now play as Under 9's. Like most people who take up the role of coach/manager/volunteer in a grassroots team I take great pleasure in seeing the kids develop and achieve things which create lasting memories, however I recently realised that football around the world does not always offer each child with the same opportunities!
I recently received a message from a coach in Namutumba which is a district in eastern Uganda and we have kept in touch. The Namutumba Kids Academy is a community based organisation which is related to an orphanage in the slums of the district. Our discussions highlighted to me just how fortunate our children are to have an organised and structured football association, playing facilities and simple items such as kit and footballs. It is normal in Namutumba for the kids to fill a plastic bag with rubbish then seal it up using banana tree leaves to have a makeshift ball and their goalposts are often constructed from tree branches.
Our football club is leading on an appeal to collect old boots and kit from other clubs within the Sheffield and District region which will be extremely well received. To run alongside that appeal I wanted to reach out to my business community to encourage business owners to donate a football which I intend to ship over to the academy. If I can collect just 15 footballs, each of their age groups will at least have a new ball.
If you can, and care to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated and will help these kids to significantly improve the quality of their equipment. I can be contacted on 07827779630 or at firstname.lastname@example.org should you wish to donate.
