In the Community.....Up the Bramley

Updated: Mar 13

Grassroots football can only be described as a passion within the four walls of the Utility Source office!

For several years, our Managing Director Dean Pattison has had a role as manager and coach of a Bramley Sunnyside JFC junior team which recently moved into the under 11's age group.

We were very pleased at the start of the season to continue to support the club by becoming the main kit sponsor. We asked Dean for his view on why the team and grassroots football is so important:

'Several years ago I became involved with the Bramley team as they started in the Under 7's age group so that my son had a positive environment to play football. The majority of the boys are still with us at under 11's and the development of each child as both a player and a person is remarkable. Over three teams I have coached almost 40 children in my five year involvement and the character and personality of each one gives me a desire to give them a platform to play and to follow some of their incredible achievements. The boys have already won several trophies, they have played at professional academy venues and we even travelled to Barcelona's Nou Camp Stadium where they were narrowly beaten on penalties in the semi-final of a tournament. What we are trying to create is opportunity, continuous improvement and more importantly some amazing childhood memories.

As a coach, it is my responsibility to be a role model, to guide and educate them and to develop a work ethic and character which will be of benefit to them in their teen years and adult life. I am extremely proud of each one of them.

In general, a child's life today is very different to the days of my own childhood. In many cases both parents have to work and time is precious. A child's diet isn't always healthy and technology such as the ipad and xbox often deters a child from running around or climbing a tree! Times have just changed. A training session and a match day enables me the opportunity to encourage a child to be independent, to consider their behaviours and to be a positive influence. It has a positive impact on their mental health and it offers that essential exercise that every child needs.

It gives me great pride to have our company logo across the shirt of these special people!'
