Behind the Scenes at Chaucer Club: How We Solved a Hidden Pipework Puzzle

What was once a bustling social club is now on its way to becoming a stylish new residential development. Chaucer Club, a site currently being converted into seven modern apartments. But as with many transformations of older buildings, progress rarely comes without its challenges.
One such issue emerged during the critical stage of the water connection. On what should have been a routine day, it was discovered that the builder had not correctly numbered the pipework at the boundary connection point. In simple terms, nobody could be sure which pipe led to which apartment, a major billing issue when each unit needs its own accurate water supply and meter.
This could easily have led to a significant delay, or worse, an aborted job.
Our Solution: Presence and Proactivity
Fortunately, we always attend site on connection days, ensuring that nothing is left to chance. In this case, there were no contractors on site, so we immediately contacted our customer, collected the keys to the apartments, and got to work alongside Yorkshire Water.
Using a methodical approach, we tested each incoming water supply against the internal manifold. Through a process of elimination, we were able to renumber each supply correctly, matching it to its corresponding apartment.
The Results
• All supplies were correctly connected
• Water meters were assigned in accurate numerical order
• Meter data was collected to ensure proper billing for each resident
By being present, proactive, and prepared to step in, we prevented what would have been an aborted connection. Instead, we delivered a smooth resolution that ensured long-term accuracy and peace of mind for future residents.
At Chaucer Club, and every other project, we pride ourselves on being more than just a service provider. We’re part of the team, solving problems before they become setbacks.
