Langtree Care Home, a new construction project within the Standish Care Village in Wigan, was designed to provide specialised care for individuals in the advanced stages of dementia. Our role was to coordinate the installation of the development’s utilities, including gas, water, electricity, and fibre internet, to ensure the building’s operational readiness.

Challenge
The project presented several challenges due to the site’s proximity to numerous trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). It is a criminal offence to cut down, top-lop, or uproot a tree with a TPO without prior written consent from the local law authority. In this case, the dense canopy and extensive root systems required careful planning and coordination to minimise the environmental impact.
Results:
- Successful installation of essential utilities: Despite the challenges presented by the TPOs, we successfully coordinated the installation of gas, water, electricity, and BT Openreach.
- Environmental protection: Our extensive knowledge and experience with utilities and the complexities of working under TPO regulations enabled us to design and implement a strategy with minimal disruption to the protected trees, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Reliable infrastructure: The care home now benefits from a robust and reliable utility infrastructure, supporting its operations and providing essential services to residents.
- Enhanced care environment: The availability of high-speed fibre broadband enhances the care environment by enabling advanced communication and technology solutions.
