St Cecilias Church

The church of St Cecilia was a large and unusual structure which was constructed in the 1930's, and is located in the Parsons Cross area of Sheffield.

One of our repeat customers was appointed as the main contractor with an instruction to convert the church into 18 flats. We were subsequently engaged to arrange the installation of independent electric and water services to the flats.

When converting such a structure into one of multiple occupancy, it is only permitted to have a single incoming electric supply. This led to us organising the installation of a 20-way bemco unit. This unit enabled 19 new low-voltage connections for the flats and an additional service for the landlords lighting and heating in the communal areas. A bemco unit ensures that flats can be metered independently so that the landlord does not assume responsibility for the tenants electric bills. We also set up energy supply contracts and secured meter installation dates.

Following the successful installation of the new supplies, we coordinated the disconnection of the old electric service which was no longer in use.

We also supported the developer by arranging the testing and chlorination of his 63mm water service pipe which runs between the new plant room and the boundary of the site. Several interactions with Yorkshire Water pressed the installation team to secure a road closure enabling the water connection work to be completed. The internal manifolds were delivered and we engaged a plumber to complete the internal service connections prior to a Yorkshire Water engineer attending to install the water meters.

We returned to site recently and were pleased to see that occupation of the flats is well underway.
