16 Cavendish Avenue - Fast-Tracking Utility Disconnections to Keep a Demolition Project on Schedule

The Challenge

In May, we received an enquiry from a returning customer who had been appointed to demolish an existing property and construct a new home on the site. Before demolition could begin safely, essential utility works needed to be completed.

The project required the gas supply to be permanently disconnected within the public highway, while the existing electricity service needed to be relocated. This would provide a temporary builder's electricity supply throughout the construction of the new property.

With demolition due to start within a tight timeframe, there was little room for delays.

Overcoming Network Lead Times

Ordinarily, obtaining quotations from utility network operators for this type of work can take up to four weeks. However, waiting for the standard process would have put the demolition programme at risk.

Thanks to the strong working relationships we've built with Cadent and Northern Powergrid, we worked closely with both network operators to help accelerate the quotation process. As a result, we secured the required costs in just two weeks, around half the usual turnaround time, and were able to issue quotations to our customer without unnecessary delay.

Delivering on Time

The customer accepted the quotations and made payment on 2 July. From there, our team coordinated the required works efficiently, ensuring that both the gas disconnection and electricity service relocation were completed by 26 July.

With everything safely in place, the site was fully prepared for demolition to begin as planned on 27 July, allowing our customer to maintain their programme and move confidently into the next phase of the development.

By combining proactive project management with established relationships across the utility networks, we were able to help our customer meet a demanding programme without compromising on safety or quality.
